About Orientation

ISL organizes an international student orientation each semester for new and transfer international students matriculating to the University of Georgia. The information included in the ISL orientation is not covered by any other orientation program on campus. Highlights from ISL's orientation schedules include information concerning immigration issues, taxes for non-residents, cross-cultural adjustment, housing assistance, course registration procedures, Social Security Cards, UGA payroll, and campus tours. Current UGA students serve as orientation leaders (called World Leaders) to assist with international orientation sessions.

Fall 2020 International Student Orientation will be held online in response to COVID-19 precautions. 

Undergraduate Students

Undergraduate students, including transfer students, should register for New Student Orientation through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Note that completing orientation is a requirement for all incoming undergraduate and transfer students. By completing this process, you will then be provided further information about virtual academic advising during summer 2020. For more information, please visit Orientation's webpage at 

All international undergraduate students will additionally be enrolled in the International Student Orientation portal, accessible through Here, you are required to complete the Academic Advising 101 module prior to receiving clearance for academic advising. Exchange Students

All exchange students, both undergraduate and graduate, will be automatically enrolled into the International Student Orientation portal online, available at

Once you make the decision to attend the University of Georgia, all graduate students should complete this form to enroll into the online International Student Orientation portal. 

What to expect from International Student Orientation 2020 

 Even in the online space, ISL staff and World Leaders look forward to welcoming you to the Bulldog Nation and making you feel like a part of the UGA family! We are here to support you and your success. 

Online Orientation

ISL staff and the World Leaders are currently hard at work building your online orientation experience for summer 2020. Here's a bit more about what you can expect from the online orientation system. 

  • You will receive the same information that you'd receive in person from important campus offices and services that are critical to your success. This includes health and wellness, safety on campus, academic honesty, student conduct, campus involvement, taxes, immigration, and health insurance, among many others. 
  • World Leaders and ISL staff will offer virtual webinars and meetings throughout July and August to deliver to you, live, important orientation content and information that will help you adjust to life in the United States and prepare you to be a successful UGA student. 
  • Once we return to campus, ISL staff and World Leaders will provide opportunities for you to connect with current and new students to expand the community we build this summer together in the virtual orientation program. 
  • ISL plans to offer services such as obtaining a mobile phone/US SIM Card and opening a US bank account in August. More details will be provided as they become available. 

Important Information About Your Registration Fee 

At this time, there is no fee to participate in international student orientation this year. For students who registered prior to May 8, 2020, you will not be charged any fees to your student account for international student orientation. 

Staying in Orientation Housing 

At this time, ISL is unable to provide orientation housing for any students participating in the orientation program. This includes early arrival housing. For students living in on-campus University Housing for fall 2020, please visit University Housing's website at for more information. 

Off-Campus Transportation 

With the current program being held online, ISL will not provide transportation to and from campus. As a reminder, ISL does not provide transportation to and from Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.   • Important topics related to UGA academics, safety, wellness, resources, and much more are discussed in detail during this program! Even if you have attended college in the USA before, it is still recommended to attend this program!
  • International Student Life and the World Leaders (orientation leaders) are specially trained to help assist international students, like you, transition successfully to the USA and to the University of Georgia!
  • You will learn important information about UGA and Athens, including where to shop, eat, and have fun! Our World Leaders are current international and domestic students that have lived in Athens and are here to share their experiences and tips for living a great life in Athens, GA.
  • Our World Leader squads you build a sense of community and establish a network of friends before classes even start!
